It was these "amendments" started me thinking and although not the main reason I am out they definitely helped.

How many former Jehovah's Witnesses bury their head in the sand when it comes to reasoning about the NGO "conspiracy"?
by Change Name inhi all - sure sure, you can call me a troll or brainwashed cult member.
i am totally interested in how your answers to these questions.. .
do you find yourself ignoring anything that jehovah's witnesses bring out in regards to their former status as an ngo?.

It was over 4 years and a different computer ago so I don't even know where I got that information from plus I was still mentally in so it was a huge and scary thing to discover and I wanted the "apostate" to be spinning the info to make the society look bad.
Had a quick look and you are right about the funding. He was not helped financially by Watchtower, just "friended"!

Without researching it as far as I can recall Jimmy Swaggart was taken to court regarding taxes on the religious literature he sold and his defense was funded by The watchtower Society.
That in itself is an oddity but when the case was lost a change to "donations only" for literature became Jehovah's latest loving provision for his servants as donations were not subject to tax the way payments are!
My beef was that they didn't admit the true reason they changed to donations only.
Why hide the fact it was because of a lost court case and it was to avoid taxes on mags and books etc.?
Why make out it was "new light" beneficial for every-one especially poor people bla blah and vomit inducing more blah!

My chat with an Elder about the UN thing! Help!
by awakening inwell it was a very long discussion.
the elder knew nothing about the scandal, but he stated that he had no issue with it since when the case was brought to light, the society acted immediately to right their course.
in fact he thought it was a sign that that the organisation was indeed the "truth".

Unfortunately if this elder "wants" to believe it is the truth nothing you say is likely to make a difference, especially if you continue to criticise in any way his beloved Watchtower society.
He needs to do his own research and the only way he will do this is if you ask him questions he doesn't have a fully prepared JW approved response for it.

"House of Prayer" or "Den of Thieves"?
by goatshapeddemon inso my good people, hear this.. my dad used to be the assembly and convention overseer, so i know the facts.. do you know why the org loves assembly halls so much?
the place i grew up - we had the circuit assemblies in our town.
we were able to rent the facility for $1000 / day plus expenses.

I don't think the bOrg do anything that doesn't make a profit.

The Apostate Boogeyman--a figment of JW imagination
by Londo111 inapostates are a figment of the jw imagination.
not necessarily the dictionary definition of the word apostate, which simply means a person who leaves their religion, for by that definition everyone who leaves a religion to become a jw is an apostate--but the jw conception of the apostate, both as an individual and as a 'group' is imaginary.. .
for starters, the watchtower goes beyond the definition of merely leaving the religion, if a person disagrees with a doctrine or practice of the organization, even if they dont voice it, that is a thoughtcrime called apostasy.

I was terrified of apostates and even going on apostate websites. They did a great number on me and if it wasn't for the "badness" I discovered first hand within the KH I would probably still be in there.
I don't know what we can do to counteract their arguments other than what we are doing already.
The "apostates" I have encountered have all been far more supportive, loving and understanding than even one JW out of any congregations I attended.
You guys are the best.

Elders Call Off Meetings A Lot More Easily Than They Did Before For Inclement Weather
by minimus inthe meetings were cancelled in this area with only 2 inches of snow for the "storm''.
lol.
a month ago the co had the meeting cancelled because it was a bit tracherous, which i thought was a good call..... years`ago, if we cancelled a meeting it took until one hour before the presiding overseer would finally decide to cancel.. today's jws are wimps..

Meetings were always being cancelled in Spain because we only had 2 elders and quite often there was no visiting Sunday public speaker available.
We got to go to the beach earlier but I did wonder why if this spiritual food was so valuable in UK and not to be missed why was this not true in Spain.
Only 4 hours from Gatwick but clearly too far for holy spirit to make it. Lol
